Gas nailer tools

For use in interior finishing, timber framing and general construction use

What is a gas nailer?

A gas nailer, as the name suggests, is a gas-actuated fastening tool that is generally used for everyday fastening. These products are powered by gas, which is usually loaded into the tool in the form of a gas cannister.

They are considered as an everyday tool for interior finishing trades and general construction. For example, fastening stud walls to concrete, timber framing and other forms of carpentry work.

How does a gas nail gun work?

Gas nailers use combustible gas that creates a small burst of energy in the tool chamber, which is then transferred to a piston and deploys the fastener at speed.

The entire process from pulling the trigger to deploying a fastener is quick, allowing for fast and repeated operation on any given project.

While the gun may be powered by a battery or mains, the power source to create the force that drives the fastener in this instance is gas.

What’s the difference between gas and powder actuated nail gun tools?

While both tools are similar in how they are used in applications, there is a difference in how they are powered and operated:

  • Gas actuated tools

create a small explosion using gas to drive internal mechanisms which help to fire a fastener into a surface.

  • Powder actuated tools

use gunpowder to create a reaction in cartridges that are loaded into the nailer. When the trigger is pulled this will start a mechanical process with a firing pin that ignites the powder to create pressure that enables fasteners to be fired. It’s also worth noting that there are cartridges that produce different levels of force when being used.

Do you need training or a license to use gas actuated nail gun tools?

Unlike powder‑actuated tools, gas tools generally do not require any formal certification or training. However, training is still recommended with the help of competent professionals.
