What is a nail gun?

A nail gun, sometimes known as a battery nailer or battery-actuated direct fastening tool, offers cordless convenience for projects where fastening is required, but without the hassle of using canisters with combustible gas or cartridges. They work by using mechanical drive to deploy nails or other fastenings – which is more convenient when working in environments where combustible substances are prohibited.

What can a nail gun be used for?

A nail gun can be used for a multitude of applications, such as fastening cables conduits, nails, threaded studs and drywall track into concrete or steel. In addition, battery nail guns are invaluable for everyday fastening and framing, like fastening wood, metal sheets or wire mesh into concrete.

What is the difference between cordless and pneumatic nail guns?

While both tools are used to carry out similar tasks, there are some key differences between these two types of nailer:

Cordless (battery) powered

  • Fully portable, eliminates the need for mains power during use

  • No separate air hose required, less tripping risk

  • Safer to use in sensitive areas

Pneumatic / compressed air :

  • Can offer more power during certain tasks

  • Offers longer runtime when connected to air compressor

  • Potentially better option for continuous use such as an assembly line

How do battery powered nail guns work?

Battery-powered nailers work by using a battery to power the internal components, such as a piston or driving mechanism, to fasten nails or other items into a surface. That means no gas or powder is required, with slightly less maintenance. The batteries used are often rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that you’d find in other cordless tools.

Don’t forget, while gas and powder actuated tools may use their respective fuel sources to drive fasteners into a surface, some can also use mains or battery power to work other internal components – though these aren’t referred to as a battery powered nail gun.

Do battery nail guns need gas or compressors?

Battery nail guns do NOT need a separate gas can or compressor feed. This is because they are powered by a rechargeable battery and also offer cordless flexibility on your projects.
