Using HIT-HY 270 for concrete facing bricks

Thank you Nhan for your question. The preferred solution for anchoring into masonry and natural stone would be a chemical anchor- the HY270 was developed specifically for masonry applications. The performance of any anchoring system is very much limited by the base material itself and given the huge variation in types it is impossible to test every type.

The HY270 has been tested in the largest range of base materials of any of our anchors but there is nothing that matches a 'concrete facing brick'; whilst the dimensions of the brick also has to be considered.

When you look at your uploaded HY270 published data, the minimum embedment depth tested in a masonry unit is not less than 100mm thick.

Due to the lack of published technical data then suitability testing in the base material should be carried out to establish the allowable resistances.

The Construction Fixings Association produce a guidance note on site testing of construction fixings, which is a good reference for this topic, as well as a huge amount of other information concerning the design and specification of construction fixings whilst BS8539:2012 is also useful document though repetitive in places of the CFA notes.
