I am exploring fixing large scale artwork (20mx20m) to an existing pre-cast concrete facade. The pre-cast concrete is 200mm thick. The artwork is temporary but the fixings need to stay in place as the art is likely to be removed, then replaced/refreshed. Ideally the fixings would be invisible when the art was removed, the pre-cast facade would appear unblemished. I was thinking something like a chemical anchor threaded socket that receives a removable bolt (perhaps an eye head bolt), although that would leave a series of small holes visible when the art was removed. Perhaps a capping bolt could seal the socket, with a finish or plug to match the pre-cast concrete to disguise the hole? I am yet to define how many fixings but suggest loads will be relatively low, less than 5kN in any direction. Are you able to suggest some products that may work?
Hi, Thanks for the question, yes, something like the HIS-RN internally threaded female stainless steel socket which can be utilised with various resins and could be an option. This would allow you to either sit the anchor flush or recess it slightly , you may also be able to source from elsewhere a plastic cover cap / push in nylon plug to conceal it when not in use along with any desired eyebolt. I'm assuming the socket would need to be stainless so that there is no corrosion leading to any potential rust staining on the surface of the concrete when the artwork is not in situ.
Hi, Thank you for contacting us. In answer to your question an option would be HY270 resin with an internal socket. HIS-N Internally threaded sleeve - Anchor rods and elements - Hilti GB. You would need to check this meet your loading requirements to ensure it was suitable and depending which diameter you select maybe a countersunk screw could be used to close of the sockets when not in use.
