Hilti launches new cordless mitre saw that boosts productivity

A mitre saw is designed to offer precision cutting from a stationary base. It makes accurate angled cuts repeatedly and is an essential piece of equipment for any contractor, especially those working with structural and non-structural timber.

The blade is pulled down towards the material, as opposed to a table saw where the material is pushed toward the blade. This is the difference that allows for high levels of control and precision when cutting.

For further flexibility, the saw can be fitted to an accompanying universal stand or fixed to a worktop or solid base.

Special mitre saw desks are also a commonly used piece of equipment on which to rest the saw. 

A mitre saw has a large cutting capacity and a wide range of uses. Some examples include:

• Wood framing, for example making precise cuts in beams, structural elements and temporary supports
• Interior wood frames, skirting, door and window frames and decorative panelling
• Bevel and mitre cuts for case work, mill work and interior woodwork such as cabinets, moulding and trim
  
• Aluminium extrusions on-site for building envelope applications

With such a large variety of potential uses, a mitre saw is an essential piece of equipment for any contractor. 

The SM 60-22 is packed with ergonomic features that make it easier and more comfortable to use than a standard mitre saw. Controls are universally front facing, so all cutting, angles and bevel adjustments are controlled by one lever, instead of forcing you to reach round the back of the tool.

 An LED shadow line is used instead of a laser for greater accuracy and to remove the need for calibration. In addition, a multi-speed trigger ensures you can cut different materials and achieve a range of finishes efficiently and in a battery-friendly way.

The tool has also been designed so that the sliding components do not extend out at the rear of the tool, meaning it can be placed against a wall or similar area, keeping the jobsites clear.

Finally, an intuitive quick-locking chuck is included to fasten materials, and you can set a back stop for precision cutting where required. Together, these ergonomic features mean that you spend less time setting the tool up and more time on the job, increasing productivity. 

The less time people spend injured or at risk of injury, the more productive they are. The SM 60-22 mitre saw is designed with health and safety in mind and includes features that reduce risk to keep your site operating smoothly.

The saw is operated by a safer double trigger system with a speed dial located on the front, near one of the triggers, for convenience. The blade itself has a fast brake which kicks in whenever the operative’s hand leaves the trigger.

The SM 60-22 is also vacuum and dust bag compatible to help you combat one of the biggest health and safety issues on any site. Dust and particulate matter pose a serious threat to health, so we have designed our new mitre saw to be compatible with accessories which reduce that risk. 

The SM 60-22’s cordless nature increases productivity in two ways. Firstly, it is easily portable and compact so that it can be placed anywhere. It is compatible with all common mitre saw stands and can be placed close to walls thanks to a rail that extends outwards. You can take our mitre saw with you and use it anywhere, saving time that might normally be used swapping tools.

Secondly, it is powered by our 22V Nuron battery platform so you can use the same batteries that you use for the rest of your Hilti tool fleet. Quick swapping of batteries helps eliminate stoppages and increase time on the job.
