Why is firestopping important in construction?

Firestopping is a significant part of the overall passive fire protection system built into your project. It provides a physical barrier to the spread of fire, smoke and heat so that the integrity of compartments is maintained for longer in extreme conditions.

That buys valuable time for evacuation or rescue in the event of an emergency. It also helps minimise property damage so that the building can continue to serve its purpose once the fire has been dealt with.

What is the Firestop Flexible Seal?

Firestop Flex Seal is a product that helps close openings and create fire barriers in concrete, drywall, gypsum, masonry and other wall types.

It’s an innovative solution for sealing medium-to-large openings and is a best fit for applications involving multiple penetrations in rectangular openings less than 50 cm in height such as:

·        Cable trays

·        Combustible and non-combustible pipes

·        Letterbox details

It’s EI 60 approved and optimal for rooms with dust and fibre-free requirements or areas that often change services such as server rooms, laboratories and hospitals.

What are the benefits of Firestop Flex Seal?

Firestop Flex Seal offers more than simply inhibiting the spread of fire between compartments in your development. It also offers a range of practical benefits that provide enhanced performance, including:

  • Fast installation – Flex Seal can be installed up to five times faster than coated boards, guaranteeing instant efficiency benefits and speeding up your construction programme.
  • ·Simple to install – As well as being quick, Flex Seal is also an easy product to install. The intumescent foam strips can be stacked and compressed, reducing opportunities for mistakes. This limits the need for rework and increases the productivity of your workforce.
  • Consistency – The preformed solution creates uniform, accurate fire penetration seals which perform in a predictable way. Flex Seal removes the guess work from firestopping.
  • ·Virtually dust-free – Flex Seal can be easily and cleanly cut without power tools so it is suitable for any environment, even sensitive ones.
  • Sustainability and retrofit – Flex Seal’s stackability means you can reuse offcuts without compromising on fire safety. The ability to retrofit without removing and replacing the system is another significant sustainability benefit.

All of those features help you save time on the job site, therefore also making Flex Seal a cost-effective option for your firestopping needs.
