I have bought a 200l rainwater tank to be fitted on the external wall of my brick-built house. It will weigh 250kg when full. It has been suggested that the four bolts supplied with it (four 180mm M12 expanding bolts, one for each corner) are unsuitable for brick walls and that you might be able to recommend the appropriate fixings.
Any advice much appreciated.
Thank you for the question Steve.
You are right, expanding bolts are not suitable for brick walls. Chemical anchor Hilti HIT-HY 270 is the product to use. Weight of tank is 250 kg but what is the load acting on the fasteners? Depends on the dimensions of the tank, wind load and more. I would guess that the 2 upper anchors will be exposed for both shear and tension loads. The more distance from centre of gravity of the tank to face of wall the bigger momentum creating tension load in the upper anchors.
