Anchoring-to Masonry above the window

We have a connection brickwork over a catnic lintel. It appears that we cannot do this on software with out a concrete base/lintel. Is there away around this please?

Thank you for your enquiry. The design code requires that a free edge is fully restrained to prevent the bricks being levered out of the wall, Typically due to fastenings being positioned in the top course of masonry in a wall (Anchor positioning within masonry structures is also addressed with BS8539:2012 ) hence the representation of a concrete beam within the model to indicate the edge is restrained.

But is the edge distance to the top of lintel critical and does the lintel provide enough restraint to the bottom of the wall. If the load is in shear only is there a minmum number of bricks or distance that you have to adhere to for this type of fixing?

Thanks for your question. In deciding anchor positioning within masonry units, based upon your knowledge of site conditions you should take into account the ability of the masonry to withstand forces imposed by the action
which will be influenced by factors such as the mass of masonry above and adjacent to the anchor location, the strength
of individual masonry units etc.
