While the cordless screwdrivers mentioned here can tackle selected jobs and materials, professionals would typically use an impact driver when higher torque settings and power is needed. As these jobs are more challenging, the tools are usually heavier – which can increase fatigue when working with them for prolonged periods. Cordless screwdrivers are often used for tasks where you want to limit any potential damage to the surface material. These are recommended for less challenging tasks.

While both can look and feel similar, the main difference is around the applications you can use them for.

An electric screwdriver, be it for drywall, metal or assembling furniture, is mainly designed for repetitive screwing tasks and isn’t recommended for drilling holes.

A drill driver, while its main purpose is centered around drilling holes can also be used for driving screws into hard materials.

While some dedicated electric screwdrivers may have the capability to drill holes, it is always recommended that you drill holes with a native drill driver or drill.

In addition, an electric screwdriver may not have the same torque or power compared to a regular drill driver for the material or job at hand.

While many items of flatpack furniture or at-home assembly items can be assembled by hand, an electric screwdriver can be handy.

So if you are looking at using an electric screwdriver to assemble furniture, we would recommend a lightweight tool that has enough torque to fasten screws as required.

However, while some users may opt to use a drill driver for screws, there is a risk of damage and/ or overtightening if you don’t use the correct settings on your drill.
