Pullout of one brick

Pullout of one brick

Why is it that HILTI profis (or ETAG 029 Annex C) limits the anchor capacity to the Pullout capacity of one brick? So, even if the embedment depth of the anchor is say 200mm, the pullout capacity is still based on the depth of a single brick, e.g. 115mm?

Thanks for the question. For clarity brick pull out is one of the tension load proofs that are required by ETAG 029 Annex C  with the Profis Engineering software following this guideline.

If you look at the Annex C  document and in particular section C.5.2.1.5 it explains the proof check  as well as the deciding criteria i.e size of unit, whether vertical joints are filled or not, mortar strength and whether there is a compression stress perpendicular to the shear ( Not shear load !) Additionally details is assessing the total load whether that be of a singe or group of anchors  it does not assess the embedment depth of the anchor.

The values the software uses are taken from the published ETA for  the HY270 for the respective masonry unit.

Thank you for your reply. I am aware of the check in ETAG 029. My question is why this check would be applicable when the anchor itself extends well beyond the depth of a single brick. Presumably, the applied force is uniformly distributed over the entire length of the anchor, why is the shear area therefore considered only for the depth of a single brick, rather than over the entire anchor depth?
