The challenge of noise in a building
Noise from waste-water drainage is one of the most common acoustic challenges in multi-story buildings. Hilti’s MP-U-G and MP-U-I clamps were recently tested against other widely used industry solutions to evaluate their vibration insulation performance.

Test setup and results
The measurements were conducted using the Tonpilz method under ISO 10846-4, a recognized standard for vibro-acoustic testing. Each clamp was installed between two steel blocks and exposed to controlled vibrations. Accelerometers measured the velocity levels on both sides to calculate the difference (in dB) - higher values mean better insulation.

The results highlight clear differences:
• Hilti MP-U-G 110: 52.9 dB (highest insulation)
• Hilti MP-U-I 115–121: 45.2 dB
• Market-standard clamps: 43.9 – 47.2 dB

These results show that the MP-U-G sets the benchmark, delivering much better performance than commonly available alternatives. The MP-U-I also offers reliable damping, making it an excellent choice for standard drainage systems where moderate insulation is all that’s needed.
