The transformation has started with iot solutions
Has IOT already started to have an impact on the industry? And on what processes? From tendering to BIM to tracking assets, the digital footprint that is IOT has begun.
Firstly, electronic tendering is becoming the standard as in the EU, for example, we insist on digital calls for tender for public construction projects, because this channel ensures that contract award processes are more transparent and efficient. Secondly, Business Information Modelling (BIM), which is already important within the industry, will soon be the standard for everyone on the building site. The significant advantage of using BIM is that a digital simulation of the project is created before the first brick is even laid. So, it minimises planning errors, permits fast calculations and quantifies any extra costs.
Moreover, there’s connected tools which can include asset tracking as previously mentioned, tool identification and tool control – all of which utilises IOT across hardware and software making lives on the construction site easier and more efficient. At present, two good examples of the IoT integration are our ON!Track and Hilti Connect Apps.
