How to manage PPE costs with Hilti ON!Track

Managing consumables across jobsites is a challenge for many construction businesses. Trying to locate tools and construction materials, track usage and deliver them to the right people for the right job can lead to negative impacts on operations, productivity and costs without the right systems in place. 

We spoke to Cost Manager, Dave Allan and Stores Manager, Mark Cunningham at BMJV recently on how using Hilti’s asset management software ON!Track has improved the way they work. 

Who are BMJV?

BMJV is a joint venture between Morgan Sindall and Bam Nuttall. They were the main contractor working on upgrading 10 miles of the M62 between Junction 10 at Warrington and Junction 12 at Manchester as part of the smart motorway programme.

The need for ON!Track asset management software

The main challenge BMJV were having before using ON!Track was their management of consumable items on their construction projects, particularly overspending on PPE and allocating PPE to the right people, at the right time.  

Through onsite analysis, their Hilti Account Manager identified an opportunity to introduce ON!Track asset management software to help manage PPE more efficiently. ON!Track has helped monitor the volume of PPE, understand who is and isn’t using PPE on site and manage the cost allocation process for subcontractors working on the project.

How ON!Track has helped boost productivity for BMJV

ON!Track has helped BMJV get rid of out-dated systems like using cards and boxes and put the stock information into a proper database. This has resulted in more accurate data and improved reporting. 

Dave Allen explains, “having used on track now for the last 18 months, I certainly could not imagine going back to the old system that we used to use. It speeded up our processes and reduced our cost massively.”
