3. What were your pre-requisites for doing the course?
James: For the eMBA, there was a requirement of a minimum of five years' post-qualification work experience as well as a good degree and/or professional qualification, or, high levels of achievement, exceptional career progression or evidence of leadership potential. I also needed financial support from Hilti to fund the course and an agreement between my line manager (Rob Eaves, SD) and myself because there are two days of contact time a month which fall in working hours. The support I have received from Hilti has been fantastic.
Sofia: Because of the level of the qualification I needed to have some basic knowledge and experience of HR processes and practices. Additionally, I needed to have GSCE English and Math’s grades A-C alongside qualifications at a minimum of A level standard. I also needed to have my enrollment agreed with my line manager as there are workshops and training that need to be completed in work time, so it was important
4. How do you manage the workload?
James: A critical pre-requisite was both my understanding of the workload and commitment required to complete the course. The majority of the course will be completed in learning groups and through self-study in the evenings and weekends. Considering my personal life is currently stable, it felt like the right time to take on this challenge. Many of the modules that I will be completing will have strong links with the operations and responsibilities on my Regional Manager role so I expect that I can draw on experience and use relevant Hilti work and projects to complete my course. I have a plan in place from April to ensure I find the right balance between Hilti, eMBA and life balance.
Sofia: I am not going to lie, it’s not easy. I already have a busy role inside of Hilti so it’s a challenge but also an enjoyable one that I feel is really benefiting me. For me the key to managing the workload is planning. I was provided the workshop and assignment dates at the start of the course so I have planned my holidays and meetings around those dates. I set aside some time one evening per week and on a Sunday afternoon to work on my portfolio and assignments. The key is to complete a qualification that supports what you do on a day-to-day basis. In my instance, each assignment is based around a topic that I already do in my role, for example, Talent Management and Resourcing, so I am not starting from scratch.
